The reign of the wild nature (animals, birds)
The country of friends (animals and people)
The macroworld
The underwater planet
A humor and animals
The world of nature in photographs of Russian and foreign photographers appeared endlessly various, surprisingly harmonious and attractive. Through their lenses wild, domestic, rare, importunate, nice and bloodthirsty birds and animals are shown to us in their full greatness and brilliance. The area of photo vernissage as usual impressed the visitors – exposition included more than 1000 pictures and hardly fit in two floors of CEH “Manege”.

EPSON company was a technical sponsor of “Saint-Petersburg PHOTO VERNISSAGE - 2008”.

Master-classes of famous photographers were hold during the exhibition: Ray Spencer, Bruce Tanner (United Kingdom), Alessandro Bee, Marco Lillini (Italy), Dmitry Fridman, Andrey Gudkov (Moscow), Pavel Bojarov, Vladimir Neimorovets (Saint-Petersburg).

During 9 days exhibition was visited by more than 26 000 people.

Saint-Petersburg PHOTO VERNISSAGE traditionally has shown two main sections: retrospective and modern photography.

RETROSPECTIVE section included photographs of the end of XIX – middle of XX century. Its basis consist of collections from Central Federal Archive of photo and video documents of Saint-Petersburg and Russian federal Archive of photo and video documents (Krasnogorsk). Here one can see different scenes of hunting and hunter's loots, Huskys and penguins, polar bears at North as well as everyday scenes with pets – touching, funny, amusing and surprising. Remarkable, filled with love and humor works of Peter Nosov and Igor Nosov – father and son, were included into retrospective section as well.
Unfortunately, idyllic relationships between animals and humans are not a rule. Photographs of 1960-80s from Union of photoartists of Russia collections has shown cruelty and hallow- heartiness of people, death of fishes, birds and animals.

MODERN ARTISTIC AND GENRE PHOTOGRAPHY section was performed by Russian photographers and photographers from Italy, Spain, Greece, Finland, Austria, USA, RSA and other countries. This year foreign authors took on native photographers. Their gallery greatly surpassed Russian section of exposition and differed with great narrative and style diversity. Spaniard Paolo Tosti delivered emotional dynamics of bullfight, intensity of emotions, exciting horsemen and spectators at horserace. Works of Italians Patricia Colombraro, Marco Lillini and Molinari astonished with elegance, challenging experiments and delicate work with light and shadows.

Famous Italian author, winner of numerous contests Alessandro Bee managed to raise newsreel shooting in African savanna to the art photography level. Animals at his photos are individualities first of all with their own temper and mood. Moscow photographer Dmitry Fridman shows the same canton of our planet as Alessandro Bee. Fridmans’ Africa is romantic and impetuous, filled with unruly emotions of predators. Such theme crossing prove, that the world is one for all, but everyone looks at it own eyes.

Also it was interesting to see works of photographers from United Kingdom - Diana Vowles, Ray Spencer, Bruce Tanner, Allan Jerkins, Graem Haris. Photographs of Bruce Tanner perfectly carry the traditional restraint of English humor through the whole gallery of dog characters and also peoples’ life atmosphere of this country.

At pictures of American photojournalist Earl Dotter birds talk to each other, dance and of course hover. In works of Michael Roach and Robbie Lacomb forms of nature are often transformed to some mystic art objects.

Nikos Hatzigeorgiades touch upon relationships of humans and animals, life of animals in big megapolis.
